OLIVE BRANCH, MS (WMC-TV) - Rental scams are nothing new, but a post on the Olive Branch Police Department's Facebook page says the scam is being tweaked with a twist that makes it hard to identify.

According to Randy Hutchinson of the Better Business Bureau, the scam is the first of its type in the Mid-South.

"We've heard of similar scams, but this is the first time the crooks have actually been able to get you into the house, which makes it seems more legit," he said.

World War II bomber on display in Olive Branch

Mid-Southerners will have the chance to fly in a plane that helped change the history of the world from Nov. 5 through 7.

The Experimental Aircraft Association's vintage B-17 bomber will be at the Olive Branch Airport. Visitors will be able to take tours of the plane and take a flight in the war bird.

While the EAA’s plane, nicknamed Aluminum Overcast, never saw combat in World War II, it’s flown more than a million miles since it was built in 1945.

“Aluminum Overcast proudly carries the colors of the 398th Bomb Group of World War II, which flew hundreds of missions over Nazi-held territory during the war,” the EAA says.

Craigslist scammers targeting renters

The Olive Branch Police Department is warning people about some scammers who are targeting people on Craigslist.

Here’s the information from the OBPD’s Facebook page:

Beware! Be careful if you go to rent a house! We are hearing that a couple of people in OB have been scammed. Victims answer an ad on Craigs List and meet someone at a vacant home to rent it. The person the victim meets has keys to the house. The victim pays $1700 cash for rent and deposit and moves in, but then finds ...out the next day that the person they met does not own the home. Then the victim has to move out.
