DeSoto County School Board purchases new buses | News
The DeSoto County School Board has purchased 38 new buses, replacing aging buses in the system's fleet.
With unanimous approval, the Board spent about $1 million for fifteen buses from one vendor and about $1.7 million for another fifteen buses, plus eight "trip" buses from a second vendor. The trip buses will be used for out-of-town travel, and transportation to local events.
The new buses will replace 30 buses currently used on daily routes countywide in the district. The system transports students to more than 40 schools across the county.
"We try to replace some vehicles in the fleet every year, rotating out the older vehicles, " aid Thomas Spencer, associate superintendent of finance.
