Five children and one adult are killed in a tragic accident when an SUV plunged into a Neshoba county creek early Saturday, according to Action News 5's sister station WLBT.

Nine Choctaw Tribal members were traveling near the Neshoba-Newton County line when the accident happened just after midnight.

Sheriff Tommy Waddell said the victims appear to have drowned after a Dodge Durango left County Road 107, off Highway 21.

That is about 20 miles southeast of Philadelphia.

The children are identified as 9-year old Dasyanna John, 8-year old Duane John, 7-year-old Bobby John, 4-year-old Quinton John and 18-month-old Kekaimeas John.

Diane Chickaway, 37, a family friend, also died.

Four adults escaped the submerged vehicle.

The children's father, Dewayne John, remains hospitalized.

Their mother Deanna Jim and Chickaway's husband, Dale Chickaway, also survived the crash.

All were from the Pearl River Community.

The sheriff said the investigation is in its early stages, but weather is not believed to have been a factor.
