Two people who inspired me this week

Something that has always been a blessing to me in my professional life, is the different people I meet from day to day, just by virtue of working for a television news station - but also by chance. I've met people from all walks of life with complex life stories and sometimes very public struggles. This week I met with two individuals who not only impressed me, but also left me inspired.

Hernando Welcomes 'Troubadour for the Lord'

(WMC-TV) - If you had a legitimate shot at becoming a rock star, would you go for it with every ounce of your energy?

A musician with all the gifts required to launch into the American rock and roll stratosphere took a very different trajectory, indeed.

John Michael Talbot, former member of a band that opened 1970s concerts for mega-rock luminaries like Pink Floyd and The Grateful Dead, arrives in Hernando, MS October 9-11 as the world's most popular Catholic recording artist.

A visit to his website http://www.johnmichaeltalbot.com/index.php reveals a tour de force of Christian evangelization that features Talbot's 53 albums, 24 books, and a variety of his recordings as a motivational speaker.

Talbot has sold more than 4 million records and his compositions can be found in hymnals around the world.

Local cloth diaper event educates parents looking to help environment and save money

(WMC-TV) - Have you ever considered cloth diapers?  Are the first images that pop in your head large swaths of fabric, pins and plastic pants?  If so, then you need to find out how different modern cloth diapers are now.

The modern cloth diaper systems are pin-less, easy to use and better for the environment.  Another important factor to busy parents is that modern cloth diapers are easy to wash.  The fabrics used now are soft, colorful and comfortable on the delicate skin of babies.  They are also easier on the environment.

In the United States alone, 49 million diapers per day (18 billion per year) are thrown away.  Disposable diapers go into landfills in which (under ideal conditions) it is estimated that it would take hundreds of years to decompose.   Each baby in cloth diapers will help to divert many of these diapers from municipal landfills.
